About Steven Zimmerman

For more than thirty years, Steven Zimmerman has chased stories across newsrooms, streets, and the quiet corners of the human heart—as a seasoned reporter and photojournalist whose bylines have appeared in the Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, Wichita Eagle, Southwest News Today, and beyond. From his first teenage days behind a microphone at a small El Paso radio station to his current role as Editor and Reporter at Southwest News Today in Las Cruces, New Mexico, he has covered conflict, government, police accountability, religion, and the everyday triumphs and heartbreaks that define communities. With 262 articles and a rich portfolio of images to his name, Steven has built a career on unflinching truth-telling and the power of a single, telling photograph.

Yet the same lens that once captured breaking news now turns inward. Steven is also an illustrator, calligrapher, narrative photographer, and artist—operating under the banner of the Copper Trinity. He designs websites that don’t just function but speak, blending clean code with visual storytelling that reflects each client’s unique voice. Alongside graphic design and photography services, he crafts experiences that invite viewers to pause, feel, and connect.

Right now, Steven is pouring his energy into a deeply personal new project: The Veiled Gaze. This ongoing photographic series seeks to capture the unguarded, intense, singular gaze of women, those fleeting windows to the soul where emotion, story, and truth reside unfiltered. “Eyes are the most powerful, honest, and expressive part of a person,” he says, and through this work he is discovering art rather than manufacturing it, one honest glance at a time. Women interested in participating are warmly invited to reach out.

Whether through hard-hitting journalism, elegant web design, or the quiet alchemy of photography and illustration, Steven views the world through a jaundiced yet hopeful eye, always hunting the single, unbroken pulse that connects us all. Based in Las Cruces, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, he remains available for commissions, collaborations, and conversations that matter.
